Watch Out Wallace and Gromit!

The next claymation movie makers may just be in our class! Today during tech time the K/1/2/3s began work on their stop motion animation projects. We learned about an app called iStopMotion and tried out some simple animations using plasticine. The students learned that you need to make small movements so that your video will look smooth and that it is very important to keep the camera still. This week was a time to practice and experiment. Next week we will begin work on our masterpieces!

  1. Hello K/1/2/3/4,

I love this idea. I have been an animation fan for some time and had often shared my interest with classes dating back to the 1990s. We didn’t have iTopMotion back then so we used cameras to take photos, numbered the photos and used a program called Quicktime to animate them. I prepared a shor post for you so you can see what we made in 2000 and 2003. All of the students were in my Year 3/4 classes back then but are, of course, all adults now. Here is the link…

I’ll keep watching your blog to see what you produce. I know they will be fun to watch. 🙂

  2. What a great idea! This is something I would really like to do with my class, so I shall keep an eye on your progress with interest. Have you found it easy to use the i-Pad app? I have done Stop motion using Digiblues cameras quite a few years ago, but like the idea of updating and having a go with the i-pads.
Did you know that we have a connection with Wallace and Gromit? Wallace’s favourite cheese is ‘a nice bit of Wensleydale’ and our school is in Wensleydale – at the top end of the dale is the cheese factory that manufactures Wensleydale cheese. And it is delicious!
Looking forward to seeing your animations,

  3. Dear Mrs. Watson and class,
I had no clue that you where capable of doing that!
One more thing I made a new post on my blog. By the time you see this it most likely will have been looked over by my mom.

    From Lillian,

P.S. You mite want to get a new post on your blog. 🙂

    • Dear Lillian,
I am so surprised as well that Mrs. Watson let us make movies.
I will go check out your new post right now!
      Miss you a lot,
