The Tale Trail- Part 5

Our collaborative writing project with five other classes, The Tale Trail, continues right here!

Several weeks ago, the classes voted on a topic for the story. The topic with the most votes was “An underground tunnel is found below the school. It takes you to…”

Classes have been taking turns adding to the story. So far, Mr. Salsich’s class, Mrs. Yollis’ class, B4, and Mr. Avery’s class have written their parts of the story.

Part 1 – Mr. Salsich’s Class
Part 2 – Mrs. Yollis’ Class
Part 3 – Mrs. McKenzie’s Class (B4)
Part 4 – Mr. Avery’s Class

We will now add our part of the story and then Mrs. Morris and Miss Jordan’s class will complete the Tale Trail.

“Let me look,” said Dr. Drakken. “NO, no, no, no! This is not the right kind! I can’t use this.” Dr. Drakken put his hand on his forehead and sighed, “I need the blue cotton candy, not the pink.” Max and Tiffany looked as disappointed as Dr. Drakken.

Dr. Drakken was disappointed that Tiffany had the wrong type of cotton candy.

Max was deep in thought, when all of a sudden, an extraordinary idea popped into his head like a lightning bolt. “I have a super, duper, idea…Tiffany and I can get it!”

Tiffany nearly fainted. “We can’t go back, Max. Don’t you remember that the door closed and we are trapped?”

Tiffany nearly fainted when she heard Max's latest plan.

Dr. Drakken smiled and said, “I just remembered that long ago I built a secret passage way the leads to the carnival. The entrance is right behind the time machine.”

Before Tiffany could say anything, Max bolted around the time machine to find the entrance. He stood staring at a tile wall that looked just like the other walls. “There is nothing here! Is this a joke?”

Max looks, but can't see anything that looks like a secret passage.

“It wouldn’t be much of a secret if it wasn’t hidden, would it?” Dr. Drakken proudly announced. “Simply push the three tiles at the top at the same time.”

Max pressed the tiles and watched as the wall spun around to reveal a dark and gloomy tunnel. Hanging from the walls were dusty cobwebs crawling with spiders.

The wall spins to reveal a secret passage.

“Hurry up you two, time is precious!” pleaded Dr. Drakken urgently.

Tiffany reluctantly joined Max at the entrance to the passage. They ducked around the colossal spider hanging in the doorway and made their way into the passage. Max whispered, “Don’t wake up the spider or he’ll be angry!”

At the end of the passage they could see what looked like an elevator. Unfortunately, pinned to the door was a handwritten note that said:

Out of Order
Use the Ladder

A note pinned to the elevator read, "Out of Order, Use Ladder."

Right beside the elevator they saw the ladder. It looked old and creaky, but what choice did they have. Max started up the ladder first and Tiffany followed behind. “Get your shoes out of my face!” exclaimed Tiffany.

“Get your face away from my shoes,” retorted Max.

After a few minutes they finally reached the top of the ladder. Above their heads they could see a trap door. Max placed his hands against the door and whispered, “I hope this is it. I wonder where we’ll come out.” Carefully he pushed the door open and to his amazement they weren’t very far from Sally’s Snack Shack and Mint Cart.

The trap door opened into the carnival!

Tiffany and Max crawled out of the hole and tiptoed to the back of Franklin’s Fabulous Ferris Wheel so they could get a better look at the Snack Shack.

Their mouths fell open when they saw what was standing in front of the shack. The two headed rattlesnake and the Jolly Giant were guarding the cotton candy!

The Jolly Giant and the Two Headed Snake were guarding the cotton candy.

Max got that look in his eyes again. “I know…we can sneak around the back without them even knowing.”

“Maximilian, this is not the greatest idea!” Tiffany angrily whispered, but Max was already on his way.

Max made it to the cart. He spotted the blue cotton candy and slowly reached in to grab it. Just as his fingers touched the package a golden cage fell on him trapping him like a mouse in a mousetrap.

As Max reaches for the cotton candy a cage falls from the sky!

“Mwauhahaha!” laughed Benjamin Franklin menacingly from the top of the Ferris wheel.

  1. Dear Mrs. Watson’s class,

I love the way you switched up the cotton candy! We thought that you would just use the cotton candy that Tiffany had for something but I like that it wasn’t actually the cotton candy Dr. Drakken needed.

I’m so excited to see how the story finishes up. What do you think will happen at the end? I think that they’ll change Ben Franklin back to being nice somehow, probably by using the cotton candy to make him feel like a kid again!

    Have a great weekend!

    Sincerely,
    Mr. Avery

  2. Dear Mrs. Watson’s class,

WOW! another great addition to the story! nice job of adding suspense and action in your part.

What do you think will happen next?

  3. Dear Mrs Watson and class,

My name is Liv and I am in Miss Jordan’s class this year. This is the second time I have had Miss Jordan as a teacher so I am very lucky. Miss Jordan and Mrs Morris are outstanding teachers! I recently earnt my own blog. This is the link: http://livsblog.global2.vic.edu.au

First of all, I was amazed how well the Tale Trail Part 5 was written. I really hope Dr. Drakken gets the blue cotton candy! I liked that there was a twist that they went back to the carnival, Sally’s Snack Shack and Mint Cart.

I think the Tale Trail is a great project for collaboration, team work and a fun story!

Your new blogging buddy down under,
    Liv 🙂
